An advantage of being a student in the UK is that many goods and services (purchased on and offline) are offered at discounted prices.
These deals can range from educational discounts on text books and equipment needed to study, to discounts in restaurants, retail outlets, coffee shops, restaurants, cinemas, museum entry, hotels and more.

With hundreds of commercial businesses offering hundreds of deals, students in the UK have a huge range to choose from.

In order to receive many of these deals, students can apply for a variety of student I.D cards:

NUS cards

Created by the National Union of Students (NUS), these discount cards are one of the most known student cards in the UK, and can make a real difference to everyday student living. With an NUS card, large savings can be made on travel expenses, and at numerous retail shops and cinemas etc. There is also an NUS Extra card that provides students with even more exclusive savings.

Student transport discounts

There are also discounts to travel up and down the country with a student rail card:
16-25 Railcard Student Discount allows you to save a third off all rail (train) fares in the UK. Also with an NUS extra card you can get an 11% discount on the cost of these cards.

International Student Identity Card

International Student Identity Card (ISIC card) is an internationally accepted proof that you are a genuine student. By being able to prove you are student, you will be able to gain access to the many student discounts available.

18+ Oyster card

Londoners aged over 18 can get an 18+ Oyster card to travel around the city. This card entitles you to a 30% saving on all adult travel cards and bus & tram passes.

International Youth Travel Card (IYTC card)

This card provides under 26 year-olds with a range of interesting discounts in the UK and overseas.
